Originally published on 09.01.2026 – The new 7-seat flagship SUV from VW will be the Tayron R-Line. The German auto giant officially announced that the SUV will be launched in Q1 2026. We know that the Tayron is already on sale in many international markets, including Australia, the UK and Europe. As is often the case, India is among the subsequent markets to receive a new product. That is because the company has to evaluate if any new model makes business sense. Since it will be positioned above the Tiguan, we can safely assume that the Tayron R-Line will be a niche vehicle.

Being the new flagship model, one can expect the new VW Tayron R-Line to offer a luxury and premium experience to the customers with the practicality of 7 seats. As part of the announcement, VW showcased a brief glimpse of the rear profile. We see a connected LED light bar joining the LED taillamps, a VW logo on the boot lid and the Tayron lettering positioned on the tail gate. The international model bears a modern front fascia with a connected LED strip running the width of the car, a rugged skid plate and a broad grille. Overall, the length is comparable to a Toyota Fortuner.

On the inside, the international Tayron comes loaded with the latest tech and convenience amenities to pamper the occupants. These include things like a 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro, ADAS, Wireless Smartphone Connectivity, 12.9-inch Infotainment Display, Premium Audio System, Multi-zone Automatic Climate Control, USB-C Charging Ports, Ambient Lighting, and much more. We shall see what the Indian version will offer. Since it will be positioned above the Tiguan, it is bound to get all the bells and whistles.

Expected Specs and Price

The new VW Tayron R-Line is expected to carry a powerful 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbo petrol mill, which is good for a healthy 204 hp and 320 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. Performing transmission duties will be a familiar 7-speed DSG gearbox. Note that the model abroad gets more options, including hybrid and diesel. Interestingly, Volkswagen could even offer an all-wheel-drive configuration. Now, we know that the Tiguan R-Line is priced at Rs 45.73 lakh, ex-showroom, even though it is a CBU model. The Tayron R-Line, on the other hand, will be assembled in India using CKD (Completely Knocked Down) kits. Hence, we can expect it to carry a price tag almost similar to the Tiguan R-Line despite being more practical. I shall update this post once more details surface.
