The craze and popularity of the iconic off-roading SUV remain unaffected by international borders
In a rather intriguing turn of events, a Mahindra Thar Earth Edition 4×4 owner ended up taking the delivery in London, England. We know that the UK has a massive Indian diaspora. They love to take their valuables from India and import them into their cities in England. However, transporting a car is not an easy task. Thar commands incredible prestige and respect in India, particularly among the off-roading communities. Having been around since 2010, the Thar moniker has assumed a legendary status. Today, it is available in 3-door as well as 5-door iterations.
Mahindra Thar 4×4 Owner Takes Delivery in London
This post stems from a_and_a_car on Instagram. The visuals capture the moment when the Mahindra Thar Earth Edition 4×4 gets delivered to its owner somewhere in London. As seen in the post, the SUV arrives on the back of a flatbed truck. The transporter unties the vehicle and brings it on the road using the mechanism to create a ramp. Once on the street, the owner moves it around and ends up parking it in front of his house. A key thing to notice is that this Thar contains large alloy wheels, which seem to be aftermarket accessories.
The Mahindra Thar comes with three powertrain alternatives – a 2.0-litre mStallion turbo petrol, a 2.2-litre mHawk turbo diesel and a 1.5-litre turbo diesel (exclusively for the RWD trim) engine. These are good for 150 hp / 300 Nm, 130 hp / 300 Nm and 115 hp / 300 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. Furthermore, these mills can be paired with either a 6-speed manual or an automatic gearbox. The 4×4 configuration is reserved for the higher versions. The prices range from Rs 9.99 lakh to Rs 17.19 lakh, ex-showroom.

Over the years, I’ve seen very few Indian SUVs generate the kind of cult following that the Mahindra Thar enjoys. Stories like an owner taking delivery of his Thar in London clearly underline how the vehicle has become an emotional symbol for enthusiasts, even outside India. In my experience covering the Indian auto market, the Thar’s blend of rugged appeal, heritage and lifestyle positioning has helped it transcend being just another SUV. It’s fascinating to see an Indian off-roader making its presence felt on global streets.
