New Mercedes-Benz CLA BEV Launch

Mercedes-Benz has launched the new CLA BEV in India, marking the debut of its next-generation electric vehicle platform. Priced from ₹55 lakh (ex-showroom), the CLA is positioned as a born-electric luxury sedan that blends range, performance, and latest technology. With over 400 pre-launch bookings already confirmed, the CLA BEV signals strong demand for premium electric vehicles in India. More importantly, it sets the tone for Mercedes-Benz’s broader electrification roadmap in the country.

What Makes the CLA BEV Stand Out

At the core of the new CLA is an all-new platform and software architecture. This is the first model based on Mercedes-Benz’s MMA platform and runs on the brand’s proprietary MB.OS operating system, making it one of the most advanced cars in its segment.  The CLA also debuts the latest generation MBUX system, powered by high-performance computing with NVIDIA chips. It supports features like:

  • AI-powered virtual assistant with ChatGPT integration
  • Google Maps-based navigation with electric intelligence
  • Over-the-air updates for continuous improvements

In simple terms, this is as much a software-driven product as it is a luxury car.

Performance, Range, Features & Charging

The CLA BEV focuses heavily on real-world usability, especially when it comes to range and charging. Here’s a quick look at the key specifications:

Specification CLA 250+ (Long Range) CLA 200 (Standard Range)
Power 200 kW 165 kW
Torque 335 Nm 335 Nm
Range (WLTP) 792 km 542 km
0-100 kmph 6.7 sec 7.5 sec
DC Fast Charging Up to 320 kW Up to 200 kW

One of the biggest highlights is the 800-volt architecture, which allows the CLA 250+ to add up to 400 km of range in just 20 minutes using a fast charger. The CLA 200, meanwhile, can add 320 km in the same time.  This directly addresses one of the biggest concerns for EV buyers—charging time. The new CLA is designed from the ground up as an electric car, and it shows.

It gets a sleek fastback silhouette with a strong focus on aerodynamics, highlighted by a low drag coefficient of 0.21. The front features a distinctive illuminated panel with Mercedes star elements, while the LED lighting signature adds to its visual identity. Inside, the focus shifts to technology and comfort. Key highlights include:

  • Superscreen interface
  • Panoramic sunroof with heat protection
  • Advanced ambient lighting
  • Premium upholstery and trim options

The CLA also brings Level 2 ADAS as standard, with the potential for upgrades via OTA updates.

Variants & Pricing

Mercedes-Benz has launched the CLA BEV in three variants:

Variant Price (Ex-showroom)
CLA 200 Standard Range ₹55 lakh
CLA 250+ Long Range ₹59 lakh
CLA 250+ Launch Edition ₹64 lakh

The Launch Edition adds exclusive design elements and additional features, making it the most premium offering in the lineup. Mercedes-Benz is also focusing on the ownership experience alongside the product. The CLA BEV is supported by:

  • 9,000+ charging points via MB.CHARGE network
  • 8-year / 160,000 km battery warranty
  • Flexible financing with buyback options
  • New High-Voltage Battery Report for transparency

These elements are aimed at reducing uncertainty around EV ownership, especially in the luxury segment.

The new CLA BEV is not just another electric car but it’s a statement of intent.Mercedes-Benz is clearly pushing towards a software-led, high-range, premium EV strategy, and the CLA sits right at the centre of that shift. With strong range figures, fast charging, and a heavy focus on technology, it checks most of the boxes that modern EV buyers are looking for.
If anything, the CLA BEV shows where the luxury EV space in India is headed and it’s a direction that’s hard to ignore.
